AI Adoption Among Independent Professionals Is Outpacing Enterprise

KEY FINDING

Solo operators and small teams are adopting AI productivity tools at twice the rate of large enterprises.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR SIDE BUILDERS

Most side income research undercounts the full picture by focusing only on gig workers and platform-based earners. When you include professionals selling services, digital products, and consulting work independently, the number of working adults with meaningful side income is significantly higher than headline figures suggest.

For side builders, this means the market for tools, resources, and platforms serving this group is far bigger and far less saturated than it appears. The infrastructure being built for independent operators is catching up to the demand, but the demand itself has been here for years.

The more important finding sits underneath the headline number: 44% calling their side income "essential" signals that this isn't hobby behavior. These are people managing real financial strategies with real stakes. That's a fundamentally different audience than the side hustle discourse typically assumes.
